The Schramsberg estate is tucked into the densely forested slopes of Diamond Mountain, a few miles south of the town of Calistoga. The estate, a registered historic landmark, has been painstakingly restored by the Davies family. Schramsberg has also played a role in world history. The Blanc de Blancs was used for President Nixon’s 1972 “Toast to Peace” with China’s Premier Zhou Enlai. Schramsberg’s sparkling wines have been served at official State functions by every U.S. Presidential administration since.
We are not big wine drinkers and I decided that if we had to visit one Winery, this place should be it. Not only because of historic reasons but the quality of their wine. The tour was fairly informative. The only complain I had was that the pacing of the wine tasting was too fast. If you pay $50, you would like to relax and savor your wine before moving on to the next one and so on.
