I needed something healthy for lunch because I was planning on stopping at Sidecar Donuts to pick up their Quadruple Valrhona Chocolate with Candied Violets. So after checking bunch of menus online I decided East Borough was worth a try. They recently partnered up with Chef Jason Neroni and Paul Hibler to open up a more refined restaurant in Culver City. I wish they had done that in their Costa Mesa location. Their menu in Costa Mesa was on the small side and if you didn’t want any carbs, you were limited to the Grapefruit salad or the Grilled Pork & Green Papaya Salad. I had the latter and it was a decent Papaya salad. The pork was on the chewy side and thankfully the dressing was not sweet like the one from the Coconut Rabbit. Besides the shredded green papaya it had julienne carrots, red & green lettuce , basil, rau rum and was served with a soy sauce vinaigrette. My husband found his Grilled Pork with Rice dish OK. It came with watercress, pickled daikon, carrots and egg roll and was served with citrus vinaigrette. His pork was more tender than mine, but he said he has had better versions. Their patio sitting was full so we got our food to go and sat at the bench outside.
