Dark Chocolate Truffle, Rainbow BFY, Coconut & Cacao, Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso
Dark chocolate truffle is a non dairy chocolate goodness. Coconut & cacao is another favorite. It is like a grown up, gourmet almond joy!! Rainbow BFY is a combination of passion fruit, raspberry and key lime frozen yogurt and was so refreshing. My husband picked the espresso and enjoyed it. It was like a cold yummy espresso.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has been one of my favorite places ever since I tried their goodies three years ago in Atlanta. They had two locations in the LA area and when we moved to VA, I had to order their pints online. When I read that they were opening a shop in D.C., I screamed with joy and spread the news. I was even happier when two days later they were opened for business. I am surprise there was not much news before they opened up. We went a couple of days later. Finding a parking was a total nightmare. It took us forty minutes to find one.
Sweet Potato with Torched Marshmallow, Lemon with Blueberries Buttermilk Frozen Yogurt, Black Raspberry Buttermilk
Roasted sweet potatoes with cinnamon and nutmeg was my kind of ice cream. The marshmallows were good also. The lemon blueberries is an old-time favorite. Sweet and tart. The black raspberry was pretty good also. Since they were new on the job, the raspberry scoop was half the size of their other locations. I complained and they gave me a second scoop!!
If I had to pick one place that I miss from our trip to Atlanta that would be Jeni’s. We visited their shop in the Westside Provisions District twice. They had so many unique flavors and it was hard to choose. What I liked about their selection was they offered a lot of savory flavors. It wasn’t your typical sugary ice cream. I heard that they might be opening a location in the LA area, I hope that is true. Because no other place comes close to Jeni’s.
On our first visit I had the very tart and refreshing Black Currant Lambic Sorbet. I loved it and didn’t realize it had beer in it. The other amazing flavor I tried was the Yazoo Sue with Rosemary Bar Nuts. It had Cherry Wood-Smoked Porter Beer plus Almonds, Cashews, Peanuts, Pecans dusted with Rosemary, Brown Sugar and Cayenne. It was so good and savory. I was in love!! My husband tried the Askinosie Dark Milk Chocolate and Wildberry Lavender flavor.
On our final stop I had the same thing as first time plus The Buckeye State. This delicious flavor had salted peanut butter and dark chocolate. How bad could it be?! I also sampled the very nutty Bangkok Peanut and it was great.
Now I have to wait and pray that they open a location in LA very soon. Do you hear that Jeni’s?
